Caracal

With its long ears, its eyes with a fixed stare and its slender but powerful body, the Caracal is one of the most beautiful cat-like there is.

The Caracal is a Lynx-like animal of dry woodlands, grasslands and scub, where it hunts birds, rodents and small antelopes. A medim sized cat, it is very fast in its movements, emplying a stalk-and-spring technique with a high speed climax. They are particularly efficient at striking down birds as they take flight, leaping high in the air to deliver a powerful blow with an outstretched paw.

Serval

Specialising in the capture of small mammals, the Serval shows a clear predilection for the rat-mole. Certain authors claim that the very sensitive hearing of these cat-like constitute an evolution as they must perceive the least noises caused by the rodents when they are digging their tunnels.

The Black-Footed Cat (Felis nigripes), a small, spotted African wild cat which, unusually for a feline, is reluctant to climb. It apparently makes up for this by being particularly good at digging.

African Golden Cat

The African Golden Cat (Felis aurata) is about twice the size of a large domestic cat. It is an elusive, solitary, West African species about which little is known at present.

The African Wild Cat (Felis sylvestris libyca), is generally accepted to be the true wild ancestor of all modern domestic cats. Originally domesticated by the ancient Egyptians, it was later taken by sea to all part of the globe.
